Offa is a city located in Kwara State, central Nigeria with a population of about 90,000 inhabitants. Offa’s rich history is comprehensively documented in a book written by James Bukoye Olafimihan an educationist and clergyman titled ‘Iwe Itan Offa’, literally translated The Book of the History of Offa.
Offa is on the railway line from Lagos, the former capital of Nigeria, and Offa served as the railway terminus before the line was extended north to Kano and Nguru. Tertiary institutions in the town include the Federal Polytechnic, Offa established in 1992, Nigeria Navy School of Health Sciences. Summit University, Offa which has just been approved by the Nigerian Universities Commission, Lens polytechnic, Graceland Polytechnic Offa.
Offa Grammar School is the first community grammar school in northern Nigeria. Offa has other notable missionary and community school such as Ansar Ud Deen College, Offa community Secondary School, Olalomi Comprehensive College, Iyeru Grammar school just to mention but a few. Offa is the second largest town in Kwara State, after Ilorin the state capital.
